Glenwillow Vineyard...
Situated on an elevated, north-facing aspect, the vineyard maximises the benefits of the sun for vine growth and health, and regular breezes for disease control and gentle ripening.
Fortunately, frost is a rare event and a large dam provides long term water security. The soil is a mixture of rich volcanic and clay loam interspersed with quartz and buckshot gravel.
Planting commenced in the late 1990s and currently we have 3 hectares under vine consisting of mainly premium Shiraz sourced from Wynns Michael vineyard, with smaller amounts of Cabernet Sauvignon, Nebbiolo and Barbera.
The vines are planted 1.5 m apart with 3.3m row spacings and VSP trellis to maximize optimum berry ripening and full flavour development.
Viticultural Practices
Our practices are designed to match vine growth and health with agricultural capacity. This means that we use only the minimum amounts of water, fertilizer and fungicide relying rather on biodiversity and natural environmental controls to provide healthy, balanced vine growth.
Good records of all vineyard practices are maintained (from irrigation to soil moisture monitoring and pest management) to ensure that we understand and manage our business effectively.
Our vineyard is developing sound environmental and quality management systems for the present and for the future.
